Arthur’s Seat
Arthur's Seat is the main peak of the group of hills which form most of Holyrood Park, a remarkably wild piece of highland landscape in the centre of the city of Edinburgh, about a mile to the east of Edinburgh Castle. The hill rises above the city to a height of 251 m (823 feet), provides excellent panoramic views of the city, is quite easy to climb, and is a popular walk. Though it can be climbed from almost any direction, the easiest and simplest ascent is from the East, where a grassy slope rises above Dunsapie Loch.

The Meadows
Over the centuries, The Meadows have provided Edinburgh’s sports men and womenm with a full range of activities. Situated just behind what was Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, and close to Edinburgh University, the Meadows remain as popular as ever and continue to be a major attraction for holding all kinds of events, from circuses to tented theatre.
Nowadays, the Meadows, along with Bruntsfield Links, have become a stunning urban green belt in the midst of one of the busiest areas in Edinburgh. Despite the proximity of busy shopping streets, the Meadows remain an area of beauty, and much beloved by locals and visitors alike. Sporting facilities include cricket squares, a croquet green and tennis courts plus the essential play areas for children.
Royal Botanic Gardens
If you like flowers, plants or any other green and leafy organisms, then the Edinburgh Botanic Garden is the place for you. It is a large public garden in which the principal types of plants are cultivated and displayed. The Royal Botanic Gardens is a series of 4 gardens spread all over Scotland. They are the Edinburgh, Benmore, Logan and Dawyck of which only Edinburgh has the title of 'royal' attached.
Murrayfield Ice Rink
Murrayfield Ice Rink is the largest permanently seated indoor arena stadium in Scotland. The normal seating capacity is in excess of 3,500 and the Olympic sized ice surface measures 200ft x 97ft. The Rink has been a centre of attraction in Scotland for all types of Ice Sports and Exhibitions for over 50 years and attendance comes from all age groups and walks of life. Many generations have passed through the doors and countless romances blossomed from chance meetings in the arena! The Rink has hosted major boxing, wrestling, ice speedway, ice shows, concerts, basketball and dance events. The Rink also hosted the closing ceremony for the 1970 Commonwealth Games
Midlothian Snowsports Centre
The dry slopes just outside Edinburgh can provide an exciting alternative to urban
entertainment. For those who have never tested their balance on the frozen slopes of the Alps or the north of Scotland this a few hours at the Midlothian ski centre will provide a thrilling cocktail of fun and fear. The Midlothian Snowsports Centre has the longest artificial slope for skiers and boarders in Britain. The main slope is 400m long and is served by a chairlift and a T-Bar. The slope is floodlit and open until 9pm most days.
Certification is required although a ski school is available. Children's sledging parties catered for with a trained instructor.
Union Canal
The Union Canal links the heart of Edinburgh to the Falkirk Wheel via an enjoyably rural 32 mile route. It features Scotland's only canal tunnels, dramatic aqueducts, and peaceful scenery. At its western end, The Falkirk Wheel lifts boats up from the Forth & Clyde Canal in the world's only rotating boat lift. Then in Edinburgh, the terminus of the canal, the new Edinburgh Quays development is taking shape as a thriving canal centre for Scotland's capital. But in between these two showpieces is a remarkable waterway, one with stunning canal architecture, great walking, and charming waterside towns and villages. The Union is a contour canal par excellence: there are no locks, simply aqueducts and tunnels to take the canal over valleys and through hills. As such, it is perfect for peaceful cruising or relaxed walking.
